- Islandman is a unique and challenging event attracting the top age groupers in the Mid-Atlantic region along with many first timers. This “racer’s race” provides a fun, quality experience that has quickly become a “must do” event on everyone’s summer schedule. It is a very spectator-friendly race. You will have support in every aspect of your day.
Detailed Race Information:
-
1/4 Mile Ocean Swim
Beach start, box course, swimming with the current. This is the safest swim venue you will find. Avalon beach patrol will have interior guards in the water with buoys. On the exterior there will be rowboats manned by two guards. There will also be guards on waverunners for your safety. Avalon rescue squad will also be on the beach.
Wetsuits will be allowed per USA triathlon rules, and highly encouraged.
This is where the tough get going. It is a 1/4 mile run to transition through the sand.
Water is available when entering transition and a hose will be spraying your feet. Music is provided for your enjoyment as you exit on your bike.
-
12 Mile Bike
The 12 Mile Bike course consists of a flat and very fast 4 mile loop that is completed three times. You are responsible for keeping track. 90% of the roads on the course are one-way for riders. The course is entirely closed to traffic for your safety. Every intersection is closely monitored by one of our many volunteers.
Please thank the volunteers - without them, Islandman would not be possible.
After racking your bike, it is up and over the boardwalk for the 5K Beach Run.
-
5K Beach Run
The 5K Beach Run takes place on the boardwalk. Of course, water is available at the start of your run, at the mid-way point/turn around, and at the finish.
Awaiting your arrival at the finish line is our one-of-a-kind, ice cold finisher’s towel. Yup, no other race has it and it is yours to keep. Oh yeah, your family and friends are also there to greet and congratulate you.
